Food (Frederick) Cake

This is what i have been doing and preparing hence unable to bake my weekly HCB assignments...getting all the gumpaste ready to harden and dry..which takes longer to dry in our climate.

I've been asked by my friend to make a cake for her nephew's 21st birthday and she told me that he loves food. Hence it's all about food.  My friend said i have include pocky, lobster, sushi and an assortment of other food if possible.

Everything is made from edible material, including the disposal box, sauce containers, green leaves.  Pocky and Chicken Nugget is hand-painted.  I was looking for sodium alginate to make fish roe or shall i say juice caviar..trying my hand in molecular gastronomy or trying to copy Heston Blumenthal..hahaha.. but i couldn't find such chemicals here..(even normal antibiotics are not allowed to be bought over the counter unless with doctor's certification..see..how to buy chemicals?!). Thus, i had to crack my head and used a more economy way of making tiny gummy balls instead. :D

The cake almost left me in tears..don't know why the cake kept breaking up and i couldn't get the pocky cake to stand upright...thankfully i had extra cake and remade it again..but had to make it bigger than what i had planned in order for it to be sturdy enough to stand.

Thank God everything turned out well in the end. I did pray very hard. :D  And God gave me a verse in Philippians 4:6-7.  "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. "

You really are some sort of cake genius (and don't you dare protest that you're not) ... this is incredible! Even thinking this up is amazing, much less bringing it to (cake) life ... wow! That's a great verse and this is obviously a gift that God has given you!

Love It!! Just amazing, faithy you did a great job!!! How long did it take to make the figures and other pieces out of the gum paste? I am just so afraid to even deal with fondant, gumpaste or any of it. I'm afraid that the image I have in my head about what I want the finished product to look like won't come together and end up looking like a mess.

Hats off to you and all the many others that have the ability to make these awesome creations!! Maybe one day I will!!

By the way that is one of my favorite verses in Philippians, because even with the gifting God gives us, we get anxious and overwhelmed when things don't seem to be turning out or going the way we want them, but God gives us peace and then in the end He always helps us bring it all together!! :-)

Maybe I need to keep that verse in front of me the next time I try to use fondant and I mean that seriously!!!

And that is one of my fave bible verses... a good reminder that God wants us to trust Him in ALL things.

Faithy, I must salute you with standing ovation!!! You just had my jaws dropped! *Can't pick them up now ...* Goodness, I can't imagine the long hours and efforts you've put into! I still have to complain the pics are to small for me to view clearly. So? I had to click on each of them to view an enlarged version. HAHA! I can't believe what my eyes just saw! Kudos to you!

Can I call you "si fu" now? HAHA! Next time when I'm down in SG, will have to pull you out to see the Faithy! Goodness! You've just left me in awe again!

In the meantime, take plenty of rest, yea?

This is one hell of a cake,it totally wowed me! So many details are included. Cant believe that even the disposal box can be eaten. Speechless! Its not just a good job, its a SUPERB job! You have my total admiration for that.

I believe that if this cake is on display at any bakery, anyone walking past would stop by to take a second look. It is that awesome!!!

Thank you everyone for such wonderful comments! I'm so touched! :)

Thanks Tiffany! I love this verse and this verse came up to me 2x during daily devotion on separate days when i was anxious and i prayed.

Thanks Jennifer!

Thanks Vicki!

Thanks Monica! LOL! You're way too kind!

Thanks Juanita! I painted on image icing cos i was too cheapo to get it printed..so it's not so difficult as compared to painting on fondant cake directly imo. But it did take lots of hours i must say.

Thanks Vickii!

Thanks Sweettooth! I think you should start on fondant..not to worry! say a prayer and work right into it! :D

Thanks Lora!

Thanks Angie! :D

Thanks Brittany!

Thanks Anncoo!

Thanks Pei-Lin! LOL! You didn't want to meet me the last time what..lol!

Thanks Dhanya! I don't have great painting skills..it's more like copy drawing..and it's easier to paint on image icing compared to on fondant cake.

Thanks Swee San! Yes..the box is made with gelatine and so are the leaves and sauce containers.

Thanks Cherie!

Thanks BakerTan! You're so sweet!

This cake creation you made is unbelievable. Really Really good!! I'm impressed and I know how much work went into it.
Don't worry, if you can make this cake you will have no problem with transfer sheets. You only have to know how to temper chocolate and cocoa butter. Let me know if you need some tips.
